White linen chemise is a must have undergarment for every medieval or renaissance costume. Designed after 15th century Italian sources and patterns. Could be worn underneath the traditional townswomen’s and noblewomen’s dresses (gamurras). Mid-calf length, wide hem and full sleeves represent the most prominent features of 1470s-1490s Italian Renaissance women’s chemises.
The shirt may be made of linen or thin 100% cotton batiste (if you’re ina search of lighter material). Has a rather low neckline both on the front and on back.
This chemise will be perfect as the first layer of the costume, but does also work as a nightgown or another type separate item. Will be a good choice for the historical or ethnical festival, will work as a part of folk or carnival costume, and even as a stage costume for Christmas and St.Lucia performances.
