Care guide
Fiorentina Costuming provides individually tailored quality of the items, but the better you look after your clothing, the longer it will serve you! Please, remember, that historically most items were cleaned with different methods, but not washed, so dry cleaning is the best answer for keeping the gowns, corsets and other pieces clean.
Please mind:
- The fabrics of our items are not pre-washed, but we do iron them with high temperature heavy duty iron so the fabric shrinks, if it should to
- Wiping food and dirt stains with wet wipes or stains washing immediately after they appear will allow to reduce harm and future laundry cycles
- Please, remove all laces, metal elements, flowers and other volumous decor before washing or cleaning
- Wearing a chemise/shirt underneath the dresses and corsets will not only look historical, but will also protect clothing from sweat and body odors, making the items usage longer
The care method is different for the different materials:
- The chemises made of linen, cotton or cotton batiste may be machine washed at temperature 60 C
- Items made of silk must be DRY CLEANED ONLY, professional methods to be used to remove stains, hem dirt etc.
- Woolen items also should be dry cleaned, the hem dirt may be removed by brushing, stains may be removed with gentle wiping with a soapy water sponge
- All the gowns made of linen, cotton, synthetic, mixed fabrics may be hand washed gently in a soapy water, if they don’t have any decorative elements or grommets
- Items made of linen, cotton, synthetic, mixed fabrics which have grommets and/or metal elements (corsets front clasp, metal boning etc.) may be cleaned only in places far from the metal elements. You may apply soapy water sponge, gentle washing gels for delicate fabrics and running water. NO UNDER WATER SUBMERGING for any of the items with metal elements, boning or decoration
- You may want to refresh your corsets and bodices from the body odor with vodka spray applied gently in the armpit area
- The hem of the dresses (except of the silk and woolen dresses) are to be cleaned with running water (hanging the gown in the bathroom and using the shower dispenser is advised) and soap without pouring water on all length of the item
- All items containing decorations made of flowers, delicate satin bows, velvet and silk trims can be cleaned only after the decoration is removed. It has to be stitched back after cleaning/washing. Using professional cleaners services is strongly recommended. Please mind the flowers and velvet trims may have their colours running on the main fabric, if washed or cleaned unstitched
